Although this is an older piece I am including it on my website since the issue of climate change and the havoc it wreaks is unfortunately an ongoing one. In March 2011, following a major earthquake, a tsunami disabled the emergency generators at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that would have provided power to control and operate the pumps necessary to cool the reactors. The insufficient cooling led to three nuclear meltdowns, hydrogen-air explosions, and the release of radioactive material . I find it frustrating that the methods we use to power our planet are the very demise of it. The Fukushima disaster was a case in point of this irony. My piece addresses this issue as well as the reminder that we all deserve a safe home on this planet.
